About / À propos
I am a lens-based artist from Ottawa, Canada, with a strong interest in landscape photography. I have shown in group exhibitions in Ottawa, and my work can be found in private collections. As a landscape photographer, I strive to emphasize aesthetics and encourage contemplation while at the same time provoke critical reflection. My intention is to be interpretive not documentary and to produce images that are expressive and serene with a tension between the mysterious and the familiar. My interest in landscape photography is two-fold. First, I am drawn to the relationship between landscape and place. In a world saturated with images of various locales from across the globe, I focus on natural environments close to home and in doing so aim to suggest that we can find novelty in the familiar. Second, I am fascinated by photography’s ability to evoke memories and express the passage of time. In exploring this, my process aims to depict landscapes in a state between “here” and “there,” “past” and “present”, and “knowing” and “longing”. My photographic style reflects this dual interest and switches from between being primarily representational to being highly constructed and stylized. Landscape as a photographic genre has a long history and my work attempts to offer a new perspective. I am a lifelong learner of the photographic medium and I have taken formal training and participated in numerous workshops in Canada and abroad over the last three decades. I have a graduate degree in art history.
